The Online 11 Plus tuition courses are divided into three terms and if your child misses the start of a term, they are welcome to join at a later date (subject to availability).
William enjoyed the Easter course and it was a welcome distraction and bit of routine in the holidays. I only overheard the odd bit but Will seemed happy and engaged so thank you.
Year 5 parent, Great Missenden (2020)
We are really thankful for the brilliant work that you, teachers, do every day with so much love and dedication.
Year 5 parent, Denham (2020)
A quick e-mail to say thank you for the half-term refresh course - and many thanks to Anne. I think it was the right balance of difficulty for Camille, enough to challenge her but not too hard so she was confident at the end of the week. The fact that the lessons were proposed online was really ideal. Camille is my fourth and last child taking the test so I am glad it is over now!
Year 6 parent, Great Missenden (2020)
We are delighted to inform you that she passed the exam. She achieved a score of 153, which we are very pleased about. We were extremely pleased with the score achieved in Verbal Reasoning, as it seems as though she managed to get more or less every question correct in the paper. She came out of the test, expressing that it was not as difficult as she thought it may have been. She walked in to the test with a high degree of confidence, with a large part of this being down to you and your staff - we would like to thank you for this, and everything you have done since September 2019. She has really benefited in being in small/medium classes - She seems to have thrived in the group environment, and the manner in which your classes are run (we were acutely aware that 1-2-1 tuition is not necessarily best for all). The amount of homework she had to do throughout the week was just right, and we felt that there was steady development throughout the year. Of all years, this has probably been one of the strangest doing the 11+. The pandemic brought numerous challenges to us all, and we feel the need to really commend the way in which you adapted to this so quickly and so well. This was a crucial period for so many children preparing for the 11+, and I feel that you could not have done any more in such challenging circumstances. Whilst it was not done by design, having different teachers teach through virtual lessons ended up benefitting her, as she gained more confidence through this experience. She has asked me to pass on to you that all teachers were really nice. So overall, a huge thank you to you and your team for everything you have done in assisting her and all the children in getting through the year, and the exam. We will most definitely be recommending you to others.
Year 6 parent, Amersham (2021)
Just to let you know that she is very happy to continue tuition online. She enjoyed her lesson today and it surprisingly worked really well with us all. I have heard some online tuition has not quite worked out as planned so just wanted to thank you, Sinead and all the team making this possible and keeping with the general classroom routine as well as trying to entertain kids remotely! Please pass our thanks to Sinead also. Was very impressed. In the meantime, hope u and family stay safe and healthy
Year 5 parent, Chalfont St Peter (2020)
Our daughter studied with Marie Redmond from November last year and passed her 11+ exam this September. Due to Coronavirus we went for online tuitions, which was very convenient and just as good as face to face lessons. My daughter's teacher Anne was very professional, encouraging and helpful. We have had numerous books and exam materials posted to us by the staff, as well as small rewards and cards with encouraging words. During the summer we signed up for the intensive course and the mock exam, which was taught in Amersham. The whole experience was very positive. My daughter's confidence was boosted hugely and she felt very sure when she took the exam, which was the best mental state we could have wished for. She now enjoys her last year at primary school with reasonable ease because she has massively improved in maths. We can't thank M. E. T. enough for their excellent teaching, help and support. My son will be signing up in a few years time. Hopefully remote lessons will still be available as it's the best way in my opinion.
Year 6 parent, Aylesbury (2021)
We are pleased to learn of Joshua's continued progress in his eleven plus studies. We know that he has enjoyed the new teaching format and being challenged. Please pass on our thanks to Sinead. We know that it has been a difficult time in terms of having to change your delivery model at short notice but we appreciate you doing this.
Year 5 parent, Slough (2020)
Overall, her handling of the 10-11 books has improved substantially over the past two weeks so we are pleased with that. It has also highlighted that we need to work on vocabulary!
Year 5 parent, Beaconsfield (2020)
I just wanted to drop you a note to say how impressed I am with both Sinead and Laura. They’re both such engaging teachers and Anaiya is really enjoying her sessions. This is coming from a girl who can quite often be reluctant to sit down and focus when it comes to academic studies. Both Sinead and Laura are so good teaching online, I wish I could show my daughter’s school your methods of teaching online.
Year 5 parent, Staines (2020)
Thanks for doing the zoom – I think it is working well.
Year 5 parent, High Wycombe (2020)
We appreciate your team's efforts with the online lessons which still allow some level of interaction instead of just pre-recorded videos so thank you very much.
Year 5 parent, Iver (2020)
This is to let you know, that Agastya has enjoyed the virtual lessons and would like to continue with the same mode of learning.
Year 5 parent, Gerrards Cross (2020)
Thank you for all the information regarding my daughter's progress. I'm very happy with her results. I have to mention that Evie has enjoyed the Easter course a lot and she would like to do a week or two in August as well.
Year 5 parent, High Wycombe (2020)
She really enjoyed the online course too- I never like the idea of online- I know my other two who had to go online during lockdown for their tuition (another company sadly) struggled and the content/teaching wasn’t as good but she was really pleased- she said everything was thoroughly explained etc and she enjoyed it. I always worry they won’t learn as well online but you guys seem to do it so well both ways!
Year 5 parent, Uxbridge (2022)
Hi Marie, Well done organising the online session. It worked fine, thank you.
Year 5 parent, Little Chalfont (2020)
Initially, we thought it would be a complete nightmare for online tuition as we have a son who is younger, and we are both working from home indefinitely. However, I think the online tuition may actually bring some sort of structure for her over the coming weeks if schools are still closed after Easter. And how wonderful to hear how Sinead tutors the children. She makes it sound so easy explaining things! Thank you for making this work. I am sure that all the parents also very much appreciate the continuity in this unforeseen crisis.
Year 5 parent, Chalfont St Peter (2020)
Thank you again for everything. Zak is really enjoying his lessons and is much happier when completing his work. His confidence has improved.
Year 5 parent, Slough (2020)
Safa is enjoying her lessons online and is positive about this. Thank you to you and Anne for your help and support.

Year 4 parent, Ickenham (2020)
We are grateful for the support given through the virtual lessons and also during the class lessons. We appreciate all the teachers who are working tirelessly to make sure our children don't miss out. Wishing you, your team and your families a happy and blessed Easter.

Martynas really loved his virtual lesson, he said that it was not too long and not too short and was really happy with the whole experience. He even said it was the best tuition lesson!
Year 5 parent, Denham (2020)
Marie, I think you are doing a wonderful job of continuing the tutoring in these times.
Year 5 parent, High Wycombe (2020)
Trying to keep my daughter engaged so far has been a real challenge and these classes do help a lot. Thanks again for everything.
Year 4 parent, Burnham (2020)
Just to say – she is finding the lessons fun and looking forward to them, great start.
Year 5 parent, Amersham (2020)
Thank you for the results. We wanted you to know that Zak is enjoying his online sessions with Anne.
Lessons are taught via Zoom. Your child will need a suitably sized device in order to view our virtual whiteboard. We will send you a link to access your child’s lessons.
No – this would be very disruptive for both the students and the teacher. The lessons are purely for the students and the teacher, as with classroom-based lessons.
What You Can Expect for Your Child on Our Online 11+ Tuition Courses
We develop pupils’ knowledge so they’re equipped to answer a broad range of challenging verbal, mathematical and non-verbal reasoning questions.
Our Online 11+ Tuition Courses Are Limited in Size
All our Online 11 Plus classes are limited in size (a maximum of 10 students, that's less than half the size of most independent school lessons), Discover the proven benefits of small class sizes.
Assessments and Progress Reports
In addition to weekly spelling tests, our term-time students undergo formal assessments twice per term—at half-term and at the end of the term—covering all topic areas. These assessments provide a valuable measure of progress over time, ensuring that we can track genuine improvements in attainment without being overly influenced by short-term fluctuations. Testing more frequently risks skewing results due to the occasional ‘off week,’ whereas our structured approach strikes the perfect balance between regular monitoring and meaningful insight.
Based on the initial assessment and your child's specific answers, we create a personalised tuition plan that sets individual targets for each subject area that is relevant to them, such as English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Every lesson is designed to develop these areas. We continuously monitor progress, allowing us to refine tuition plans to ensure they suit your child's needs and challenges.
Parents are always welcome to contact us at any stage during their child's 11+ course for feedback on their development. They can speak with their child's teacher after lessons or contact Marie directly by phone or email for further insight. As a smaller provider, we take pride in our ability to offer tailored guidance and maintain a close, supportive relationship with families.

Homework
To help reinforce skills taught during the online 11 Plus tuition course, we’ll provide homework at the end of each lesson – with reviews of each topic in the following session. This gives pupils the opportunity to ask any questions on areas they may have struggled with. As reading comprehension and vocabulary are such important parts of the 11 Plus exams, we recommend that parents encourage their children to read as wide a range of fiction and non-fiction books as possible.
The Marie Redmond Tuition® Book Club
Sharing our enjoyment of books is a fantastic way to encourage reading and therefore develop vocabulary and comprehension at home. The Marie Redmond Tuition® Book Club is open to all students attending our term-time online 11 Plus tuition courses and is an excellent platform for discussions about books, opportunities for creativity and promoting reading for pleasure. Discover our book of the month.
Creative Thinking Course
The virtual Creative Thinking Course is particularly useful for boys preparing for the revised Reading School 11+ exam in September 2025 but is open to all our term-time students.
Students attend one creative thinking lesson per week on Zoom, which lasts for 45 minutes. Students are taught to use innovation and problem solving. They will become adept at approaching situations in different ways, using diverse strategies.
Every lesson includes a fun thinking skills warm-up activity followed by the main focus of the lesson. Strategies like group discussions, questioning, mind mapping, and thinking 'outside the box' are employed to encourage creative learning approaches. Students learn various writing techniques and how to draft, review, and edit their work.
Homework is assigned weekly to consolidate the skills taught during the lesson. Homework is submitted via email, and the creative thinking teacher annotates the text and writes a short report. General points about the texts are reviewed at the start of the next lesson.
Course Details:
One lesson per week on Zoom, lasting 45 minutes
Fee, including books: £25 per lesson
For further information, including fees, term dates and FAQ's, please visit our Creative Thinking Course page.
Creative Writing Course
Enrol your child in our virtual creative writing course, open to all our term-time students. This offers a fantastic opportunity for your child to enhance their spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary skills, whilst also fostering their creative writing abilities. If your child is preparing for Reading School, we recommend that you select the Creative Thinking Course instead of creative writing.
Students attend one creative writing lesson per week on Zoom, which lasts for 45 minutes. During every lesson they participate in a fun writing skills warm-up activity which might focus on grammar or a literary device, they might read and analyse a writing example or use a story prompt, and then work on creating their own text.
Every week there is a focus which can include story settings, characters, openings, events / problems and resolutions. Students practise writing in a variety of formats such as stories, plays, newspaper articles and letters. They are taught to use a variety of literary techniques and we show them how to draft their work, as well as reviewing and editing.
Homework is set every week. Students build upon the tasks in their lesson to create their own text. The texts are then reviewed at the start of the next lesson.
