Reading School (FSCE exam) Half Term Courses for Year 5 in 2026 Who are the 11+ half term courses for? Our February and May Year 5 intensive 11+ half term courses in Winnersh are suitable for students taking the Reading (Boys) School exam, including those that attend our term time courses and those that have not previously attended our courses.
The half term courses are for students that are leaving Year 5 at school in July 2026.
What do the Reading School 11+ half term courses cover? The 11+ half term courses in Winnersh are for students preparing for Reading (Boys) School and provide a broad and engaging curriculum:
In maths , we explore key areas such as fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, and word problems, among other topics. In English , we focus on comprehension strategies, vocabulary, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Alongside these, students will enjoy developing creative thinking and studying history , geography , and music . We will also be revising exam strategies and putting these into practice by completing short tests throughout each morning. Which week includes a mock exam? A mock test is included only with the May half term course (Reading School FSCE-style mock exam A). You can book additional mock exams separately on the website to give your child as much practice as possible. When booking exams separately, simply choose different exams to avoid booking the same one twice.
How many 11+ half term courses can I book? Students can attend 1 or 2 courses (February and/or May) as each course is unique; how many you book will depend on how much support you believe your child needs in the run up to their 11+ exam.
Your child’s entire lesson is taught by a qualified, highly experienced primary teacher (no assistants); just focused learning in small classes of 10 or fewer students, ensuring that every moment is dedicated to expert teaching.

Secure a place for your child on our Half Term 11 Plus Intensive Courses
Enrol now What you can expect for your child on our Half Term 11+ Intensive Courses for Reading School We develop pupils’ knowledge so they’re equipped to answer a broad range of challenging questions across English, maths and other Key Stage 2 topics.
Small classes Our Half Term 11 Plus Intensive Courses for Reading (Boys) School are limited in size (maximum of 10 students ) , which means that your child will have valuable one-to-one attention with their fully qualified teacher. Discover the proven benefits of small class sizes.
Marie Redmond Tuition® Half Term Reading School Course Resources At the start of the Year 5 half term courses for Reading School, your child will receive their half term 11+ intensive course books.
If a student has not previously studied with us, the books for their first 11+ half term course will be provided in a Marie Redmond Tuition® Compact Rucksack , containing an electronic thesaurus and dry erase whiteboard. Students also receive notebooks dedicated to vocabulary and maths, as well as a plain notebook for additional notes.
Completing the set is a pencil case stocked with essential stationery including HB pencils, an eraser, sharpener and a dry erase pen.
Homework To help reinforce skills taught during the half term 11 Plus intensive course, we’ll provide homework at the end of each lesson – with reviews of each topic in the following session. This gives pupils the opportunity to ask any questions on areas they may have struggled with. As reading comprehension and vocabulary are such important parts of the 11 Plus exams, we recommend that parents encourage their children to read as wide a range of fiction and non-fiction books as possible.
Mock exam We set a mock exam at the end of May Year 5 Half Term 11 Plus Intensive Course (this is not included in the February course) written by Marie Redmond MEd, making sure your child is completely comfortable with exam conditions before it really counts. You will receive the results within 48 hours, along with access to Marie Redmond 11+ Intelligent Video Learning®, providing video feedback for every incorrectly answered question.
Breaks To help your child consolidate their memories and continue to absorb new information, we include three 5 minute breaks during each of the half term lessons.
The importance of sleep As sleep plays an important role in consolidating new memories , we recommend that your child gets as much sleep as possible during the period of their Half Term 11 Plus Intensive Courses and any key periods of learning. School-age children need between 9 and 12 hours of sleep a night and there are a few simple things you can do to help them get to sleep , such as turning off the TV, tablet or computer at least two hours before bedtime – the light from these can interfere with the production of the hormone melatonin, which affects sleep-wake cycles.
I am a great admirer of Marie Redmond’s work and her personal passion for academic success in young people.

My son was nervous about attending the course and reluctant but was absolutely buzzing after each session. He was super positive, excited and incredibly chirpy - he'd loved the lessons, the teaching (thanks Alison!), the reward system and had instantly made friends. It was great because a hard sell - studying in the school holidays! - became easy because of the expertise of the teacher and the small class size environment. Thanks very much everyone![From Google Review. The location of the parent/child has been excluded as their name is featured on Google]

Ollie thoroughly enjoyed his week with the teacher and the other pupils. He said that the teacher was really nice and made him feel relaxed. He thought the other pupils were very nice. Although Ollie is not generally very keen on anything that requires him to put in some effort he was really keen to go along each day and felt his week went really well. Thank you for everything. I will definitely recommend your summer course to my friends.
Year 5 parent, High Wycombe (Summer 2016)
Thanks for this feedback, we will definitely look at the areas you have recommended. This is really helpful. Thank you for your comments about her listening & participation too, it’s great to know she was a valued class member last week! She really enjoyed the course, and thought her teacher was lovely. It was challenging but she loved meeting and working with other children and found the work covered ever so useful. Many thanks.

Thank you for the course and I will be sure to recommend you and no doubt be back again when my daughter will be starting.

Amber enjoyed the course and found it very useful.
Year 5 parent, Gerrards Cross (Summer 2016)
Thanks to Marie Redmond and team, my son passed his 11plus exam with flying colours, exceptional result. This is mostly due to the teaching and support of Marie Redmond and team and the dedication that my son put into each class, homework, intensive summer courses and mock exams for the 2 years he was enrolled with Marie Redmond. Marie Redmonds teaching methods have been fast paced but set at just the right level and tone, and without this fast paced teaching I dont think my son would have achieved exceptional results, as a mum I am flying high over the moon, with my son off course.
Thankyou Marie Redmond and team for laying the solid foundations for my sons future journey in education, and because of this I have enrolled my other younger son![From Google Review. The location of the parent/child has been excluded as their full name is featured on Google]

Thank you for the feedback from the summer course. Your email was very reassuring and very much appreciated! Kirsten feels so much happier about the 11+ now that she’s done the mock exam , and sailed through the refresher course on Saturday. She says she’s not worried about it at all now which is a huge relief for us. Having the mock exam as part of the summer course was hugely beneficial for Kirsten because she now knows what to expect and also that she can do it. It has given her a much needed boost to her confidence. Kirsten really liked having Mandy as her tutor for the summer term and was pleased that she also taught the summer course. We are very grateful for Mandy’s tuition.

The feedback has been very helpful indeed and it is useful to know the areas that Safa needs to focus on. Safa has very much enjoyed attending the 2 summer courses. She has always found Anne to be very approachable and helpful. As always, Anne’s lessons are enabling and motivating. The summer course homework is very helpful and Safa has been completing these as per the guidance. We were both impressed with the Marie Redmond Verbal Reasoning books. Safa has found these to be user friendly - combining both GL and CEM questions. Safa even asked if there was a Marie Redmond Maths word problem book!!

We're really pleased with Matilda's test results. Matilda really enjoyed the Summer course - she came out each day happy and was quite excited to go in each day. I think focussed learning in an environment like that is something she responds positively to, so we'll definitely look to book her in for next Summer too.

Many thanks for Kabir's report from Abbie, Kabir was very pleased to read it, and of course so were we (his parents). I am delighted to learn that Kabir is doing very well in all areas, hope he keeps this up throughout. Kabir wanted to say that he really found Abbie a very friendly teacher and enjoyed her teaching methods and he came out happy and relaxed after each session. Please do pass on Kabir's praises to Abbie.

Mia is really enjoying the course this week. She was actually keen to join you next week too.
Year 5 parent, Beaconsfield (Summer 2016)
I just thought I would let you know the Eleanor passed her 11 plus very well. She is so pleased. She thoroughly enjoyed the Easter, summer and refresher courses she did with you and gained lots from these. The antonym/synonym snap game was a particular hit and gave us a new way of learning these which otherwise was a particularly dry topic. She also loved the small classes, teachers and learnt a lot generally. Thank you very much.

Hi Marie , Thank you for your lovely words about Lucia's progress. She thoroughly enjoyed your course and I highly recommend this to all. The last few days I have noticed that Lucia is getting more confident in answering her questions.

I’d like to update you that Devkrish was successfully offered a place at the Royal Grammar School (first choice). He did attend a couple of your summer courses and mock exams which he found very useful. He enjoyed the sessions organised for the mock exams. Devkrish looks forward to excel in an academic environment. Thanks a lot.

Tom was very pleased with his 11+ result – he scored 140! Thanks for all the help and guidance that he received during his holiday course. Both Tom and I feel that the course gave him the final boost that he needed (in terms of confidence and knowledge) to do his best in the 11+
Year 5 parent, Naphill (2016)
Thank you so much for sending us Sinead's report - that was lovely to read. I have to say that despite having to study for 4 days, instead of languishing in the sun, Flynn never complained once about going in so Sinead must have been doing something right! Those study sessions and the mock exam were so helpful for us because Flynn hasn't been externally tutored so getting independent assessments of where he's at can feel like a leap in the dark. It's been an investment very well spent in our opinion, so thank you for the very well organised and set up operation.
The final point about focusing until the final exam has also been useful in persuading Flynn to keep going for a few more weeks! With very many thanks

Hannah really enjoyed the course & found it really useful! My next daughter takes hers next year so will definitely be in touch about putting her on the course next summer.

Year 5 parent, Beaconsfield (2018)
She has enjoyed the summer course and thank you for the reading list you sent to us before. This was so helpful in providing great reading material for her to digest.
Year 5 parent, Beaconsfield (2021)
Many thanks for your summer school, which we believe had a remarkable impact on our son’s 11 plus score. Despite having lived abroad for the past 3 years, he passed the 11 plus very comfortably and I know he learnt a lot of content and valuable exam techniques during the week and final refresher day that he took with you.
Year 5 parent, Gerrards Cross (2018)
I am writing to inform you that Anastasis did well passing both CEM and GL exams. We are very pleased, and want to thank you for your help. In fact I found the Easter and Summer courses helpful with different books to support needs of practising.
Year 6 parent, Slough (2019)
I am very pleased to write that my daughter, who attended your Easter and Summer revision courses, was successful in her Bucks 11+ exam.
Year 5 parent, Beaconsfield (2018)
Thank you for sending this through. It is such a detailed report from Irene and a joy to read. Amelie really enjoyed her summer course and found it beneficial. I have read out Irene’s report to Amelie and she was pleased. In addition, thanks for also sending through the results of her mock exam. I really liked the breakdown of the results to see the areas we need to work on and the video explanations. It is really helpful. She did very well in some sections. Just a few more marks needed in others. Hopefully we can focus on the weaker areas to boost the marks a little for the main exam. She found it useful to practice under exam conditions and seeing the timings.
Year 5 parent, Wendover (2023)
Connie enjoyed the summer school course. She was very happy to come in every day and seemed relaxed whilst also enjoying the work. Please pass on our thanks to the teacher for her work with Connie and her cheerful kindness throughout. It was very much appreciated.

Year 6 parent, Amersham (2020)
She really enjoyed the Summer course - she came out each day happy and was quite excited to go in each day. I think focussed learning in an environment like that is something she responds positively to, so we'll definitely look to book her in for next summer too.

Dear Marie and particularly Sinead, thanks for your efforts this week with my daughter. She has really enjoyed the summer course and has returned home really positive each day. I think it was just right for her to get her into the school mindset again, whilst focussing on her strengths.
Year 5 parent, Chesham (2021)
We are going to continue working on the homework recommended for over Summer and I have already seen an improvement in Keira from her attending and doing tests at home, so I appreciate this week.

I am hearing all very positive things about the summer course, and it seems very well organised. Many thanks again, Marie, it's a very thoughtfully laid out course.
Year 5 parent, Berkhamsted (2021)
Edward attended one of your week long summer courses in Beaconsfield. I thought that you would be interested to know that he passed with a score of 142. Phew! Thank you so much for your help with his preparation, and for sending him a good luck card in the post.
Year 6 parent, Bledlow (2019)
Marie Redmond Tuition has been a good fit for both of our children, who attended weekly sessions through Year 5, a week’s summer course (including a mock test ) and one additional mock test. Work was well structured and organised, feedback, materials and other admin. appropriate and timely. Tutors Sarah H (this year) and Anne (three years ago) provided friendly, pragmatic teaching and support and were responsive to questions asked before / after class (as were Marie and Craig via email). Mock tests helped with exam technique and timing (our son caught himself answering out of synch in the actual test, so the rehearsal experience was invaluable). Both children say it helped to prepare them well. We’re very pleased that both passed. We have already recommended MR Tuition to several friends and will do so again if asked.[From Google Review. Morgan is really taken with Catherine and feels she teaches things in a “really nice way”.
Year 5 parent, Slough (Summer 2016)
He did very well in both the Bucks (140) and the Herts (237) Tests. Many thanks to you and your fantastic tutors for all the support and feedback. He attended your year 5 course, summer course and 2 mock tests and really improved over the last year. Things that were particularly helpful about your course: strong focus on vocabulary starting before the course had even begun, structured homework, rewarding them for their effort with the points and prizes system, regular testing so we could understand where our child’s weaknesses were and lots of question practice for technique. We look forward to seeing you again with our younger son.
Year 6 parent, Chalfont St Giles (2019)
As you know Jack passed the 11+ and we are absolutely delighted. He is naturally a bright child, as you are well aware but we do strongly believe that it is down to your fabulous fun tuition that he passed the 11+. He really enjoyed the week that he had with you doing the intensive course. He said it was really fun, and that he found you a lovely teacher, kind too. He found the structure of your lessons a great bonus. We will be eternally grateful for your help. We are really glad that he came to you and wish you well in the future with your other students.
Year 6 parent, Ivinghoe (testimonial received in 2015 – Jack sat the 11 Plus in 2014)
Our daughter studied with Marie Redmond from November last year and passed her 11+ exam this September. Due to Coronavirus we went for online tuitions, which was very convenient and just as good as face to face lessons. My daughter's teacher Anne was very professional, encouraging and helpful. We have had numerous books and exam materials posted to us by the staff, as well as small rewards and cards with encouraging words. During the summer we signed up for the intensive course and the mock exam , which was taught in Amersham. The whole experience was very positive. My daughter's confidence was boosted hugely and she felt very sure when she took the exam, which was the best mental state we could have wished for. She now enjoys her last year at primary school with reasonable ease because she has massively improved in maths. We can't thank M. E. T. enough for their excellent teaching, help and support. My son will be signing up in a few years time. Hopefully remote lessons will still be available as it's the best way in my opinion.

Hello Ansa & Marie,
Thank you for this feedback, we were very happy with the progress Aiyarra made through the course and will continue to work on time questions with her.
We were also happy she passed the Mock test and will be going through the answers with her once back from holiday, she will use this time away to completely de stress.
Ansa thank you for the work you put in with Aiyarra and the course itself I know she said she enjoyed the course.
Enjoy the summer
Year 5 parent, Amersham (Summer Course 2022)
I just wanted to say thank you to yourself and to Leanne. The Easter and Summer courses gave him some great tips and helped build his confidence. He even admitted to finding the lessons surprisingly fun and he enjoyed the structure. I also think that the mock tests really helped to settle his nerves so he knew what to expect from the exam itself. He ended up getting 139 in the eleven plus exam and was very happy. Thank you.

'I can highly recommend Marie Redmond 11+ mock exams 100% as it takes doubts and seconds thoughts away and helps kids improve their confidence and self belief. My son also took an intensive week course in Earley, two weeks before the exam and all his tutors, specially Suzanne [Suzannah] were very kind and attentive to both of us. As a parent I can also recommend the guidance and support I got from Craig MacLennan who answered all my emails promptly. Thank you to all the team at Marie Redmond for making this journey easier to both parents and children.

My son started just after February 2023 half term and he also did the Easter and Summer intensive courses and I am extremely pleased to say that he has passed and was accepted at Reading School (boys grammar). He did the 11+ with Marie Redmond in Winnersh which was an ideal location. Melanie his tutor was excellent.
He also did book club and creative writing which gave him a wider vocabulary and a great opportunity to meet like-minded students of his age group which he really enjoyed.Highly recommend and we'll be looking at 11+ tuition when my youngest son reaches 10 years old.[From Google Review. My daughter just completed the Y4 refresher course and we’ve never received such in-depth feedback on her school work…….ever! The detail her teacher (Grace) went into over a 4 day course was incredible. The comments about her attitude to learning and the skills gap required were a pleasure to read. It’s always a lot easier to learn new things when children are engaged; credit to Grace!I’m also very impressed with the communication I’ve received from both Marie and Craig thus far. I’ve had a number of questions and have always had a very prompt reply (even on Sundays!) with professional but honest feedback. I am really very excited about the learning journey for daughter when she starts the Y5 termly course with your team. Thank you!

May I take this opportunity to thank you & Sarah for all that you have done for Kai over the past year. He has enjoyed it, and being very shy, I think it's benefited him spending Monday evenings with children that he otherwise wouldn't have known. Needless to say, he has very clearly gained from the excellent classes & books that you have provided, and all we can hope for now is a good result on Thursday! I should also add that he really enjoyed his 4-day summer course with Leanne in Chalfont. I was worried that he would struggle being with a new teacher (in the past he has taken months to get used to new teachers!), but he took to her on the very first day, saying how friendly she was.

Thank you for sending the results of his mock test along with all the other information which we found very useful. He had a great week at summer school and we are really pleased with his results.

Luke is enjoying relaxing after the 11+. He did really well with a score of 152. Thanks so much for all the input. The term-time and summer courses were really useful. He is really goal-driven and so having points and prizes to work towards really helped. As were the mock exams , which allowed him to get a feel for the timing and experience of sitting an exam under pressure. Thanks also to the fantastic tutor Sarah.
