Summer 11+ Intensive Courses for Years 4 & 5 (2026)
Preparing for the Buckinghamshire, Slough, Kendrick, Reading School and South West Herts Consortium 11+ Exams
All too often, teachers notice the slide in academic ability that occurs during the long summer holiday. A common finding across numerous studies is that on average, students score lower on standardised tests at the end of the summer than they do at the beginning of summer (on the same test).
Maximise your child’s chances of achieving in the 11 Plus – let them join us for our popular Year 4 and 5 Buckinghamshire, Slough/Kendrick and Reading School Summer 11 Plus Intensive Courses.
In 2026, our Summer 11 Plus intensive courses will take place in Amersham, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield, Bushey, Gerrards Cross, High Wycombe, Stoke Poges and Winnersh.
In the Summer 11 Plus Intensive Courses for Year 5, we concentrate on exam techniques and skills gaps, to prepare pupils for the imminent test – and include a mock exam. Our Year 4 courses focus on core skills, with small quizzes to monitor progress. Educational games and activities are an integral part of our courses so that children enjoy their lessons and remain engaged throughout.
Each of our Year 5 Summer 11 Plus Intensive Courses are different, so Year 5 students can attend one, or any number of the courses.
Secure a place for your child on our Summer 11 Plus Intensive Course
What you can expect for your child on our Summer 11+ Intensive Courses
We develop pupils’ knowledge so they’re equipped to answer a broad range of challenging verbal, mathematical and non-verbal reasoning questions.
Small classes
Our Summer 11 Plus Intensive Courses are limited in size (maximum of 10 students), which means that your child will have valuable one-to-one attention with their fully qualified teacher. Discover the proven benefits of small class sizes.
Marie Redmond Tuition® Summer Course Resources
If a student has not previously studied with us, their books will be provided in a Marie Redmond Tuition® Compact Rucksack, containing an electronic thesaurus and dry erase whiteboard. Students also receive notebooks dedicated to vocabulary and maths, as well as a plain notebook for additional notes.
Completing the set is a pencil case stocked with essential stationery including HB pencils, an eraser, sharpener and a dry erase pen.
Homework
To help reinforce skills taught during the summer 11 Plus intensive course, we’ll provide homework at the end of each lesson – with reviews of each topic in the following session. This gives pupils the opportunity to ask any questions on areas they may have struggled with. As reading comprehension and vocabulary are such important parts of the 11 Plus exams, we recommend that parents encourage their children to read as wide a range of fiction and non-fiction books as possible.
Assessments and student report
Year 4 students complete a small number of short, timed tests during every lesson. Mistakes are reviewed afterwards and exam strategies are discussed. A few days after the course, Year 4 parents receive a summary of their child's results, along with a report about their participation during the course, their strengths and areas to develop. Parents of Year 5 students will receive their child's mock results within 48 hours of the exam; if they would like any additional feedback regarding their child's participation during the course, they are welcome to speak with the teacher after each lesson, or contact us separately. Teachers are always very happy to chat with parents after each lesson and parents are welcome to speak with Marie at any point before, during or after the course.
Mock exam
We set a mock exam at the end of each of our Year 5 Summer 11 Plus Intensive Courses, written by Marie Redmond MEd, making sure your child is completely comfortable with exam conditions before it really counts. You will receive the results within 48 hours, along with access to Marie Redmond 11+ Intelligent Video Learning®, providing video feedback for every incorrectly answered question.
Breaks
To help your child consolidate their memories and continue to absorb new information, we include three 5 minute breaks during each of the summer lessons.
The importance of sleep
As sleep plays an important role in consolidating new memories, we recommend that your child gets as much sleep as possible during the period of their Summer 11 Plus Intensive Course and any key periods of learning. School-age children need between 9 and 12 hours of sleep a night and there are a few simple things you can do to help them get to sleep, such as turning off the TV, tablet or computer at least two hours before bedtime – the light from these can interfere with the production of the hormone melatonin, which affects sleep-wake cycles.
