Introduction to the Slough Consortium 11 Plus exam
To be eligible to apply for a place at a Slough grammar school (Herschel Grammar School, Langley Grammar School, St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School and Upton Court Grammar School), your child will need to pass the Slough Consortium 11 Plus exam. Children born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015 will take the Slough Consortium 11+ exam in September 2025 to be eligible to apply for a place for September 2026. The 2025 Slough Consortium 11+ exam (for 2026 entry) will be held in the latter half of September 2025. We will update this information as soon as the official dates are confirmed.
The Consortium operates a shared 11 Plus testing process with the four schools using the same test papers and common eligibility criteria for selection. In October 2022, CEM Cambridge formally announced its decision to stop providing paper based exams from September 2023; therefore the Slough Consortium required a new exam provider from 2023. At that point, we immediately switched all students preparing for Slough to our GL Assessment syllabus; by making this decision before the new exam board was confirmed, we ensured that our Slough students received nearly 4 months of additional preparation for the GL-style of questions. On Tuesday 7th February 2023, it was announced that the Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools had contracted with GL Assessment for the 11+ examinations to be held in September 2023, 2024 and 2025.The tests identify the top 35% of the cohort as eligible for consideration for entry to grammar school and the eligibility mark is 111.
The Slough Consortium has its own contract with GL Assessment and there will be no sharing of 11+ scores with any other schools. Therefore, for example, a student applying to both Buckinghamshire and Slough will need to sit both exams.
The Slough 11 Plus exam consists of two papers, taken on the same day, each approximately 60 minutes in duration and testing English, mathematics, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning.
All questions on both papers are multiple choice and pupils indicate their answers on a separate answer sheet.
The provider of the Slough 11+ exam changed from CEM to GL Assessment in September 2023. Parent guides and familiarisation papers are available to download on the admissions pages of each of the Slough Consortium Grammar Schools.
You need to register your child to take the Slough Consortium 11 Plus test.
Online registration for the 2025 exam (for September 2026 entry) is expected to open at the start of May 2025 and close in the middle of June 2025. We will update the exact dates here as soon as they are available.
The sole purpose of registration is to enable your son or daughter to sit the 11 Plus exam. The consortium will order one set of exam papers for them, therefore ensure that you complete the registration process once only.
The Slough Consortium has its own contract with GL Assessment and there will be no sharing of 11+ scores with any other schools. Therefore, for example, a student applying to both Buckinghamshire and Slough will need to sit both exams. The previous score sharing agreement with Kendrick is no longer in place.
By scoring 111 or more, your child will be eligible for consideration for a place at any Slough grammar school named on your Local Authority’s Common Application Form (CAF). However, this does not guarantee a place as the schools may be oversubscribed. Each school’s admissions policy will describe how places are allocated in the event of oversubscription.
The 2023 Slough 11 Plus exam results (for 2024 entry) were released on 13th October 2023. The results date for the 2024 Slough 11 Plus exam (2025 entry) has not been announced (the specific date will not be given in advance by the Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools).
If you wish your child to be considered for entry to any of the four Slough grammar schools, you will need to name the relevant school or schools on the Common Application Form (CAF).
Common Application Forms opened online at the beginning of September 2024 and you will have until the end of31st October 2024 to submit it to your Local Authority.
School places for September 2025 will be confirmed on 1st March 2025.
If you live within Buckingamshire, you can name up to 6 schools on your CAF; however some areas differ and may allow you to select fewer schools (please check with your local authority). Schools must be listed in your preferred order.
You will need to submit the CAF to the Local Authority in which you reside. If you live outside Slough, you must apply through your own Local Authority – even if your child currently attends a Slough primary school.
If your child is not offered a place at your first preference school, they will be allocated a lower preference school and placed on the waiting list of any school that is higher up on your order of preference but for which you have not been offered a place. For 2024 entry, the waiting lists will remain in place until 31st December 2024 (the end of your child’s first term in Year 7). Once school places are confirmed on 1st March 2024, further rounds of allocations from the waiting lists will be made as places in schools are accepted and rejected.
It is likely that you will not be consulted about the waiting list process; your local authority regard your common application preferences as a set of instructions that they will try and fulfil. For example, on 1st March you may be allocated a place at your third preference school, which you sensibly choose to accept. You will then be placed on the waiting list for your first and second preference schools. If in one of the later rounds of allocations, a space becomes available at your second preference school, your third preference place will disappear and your child will be allocated their second preference school. This process happens automatically, so it is very important that if you are happy with the allocation that you have received, that you inform your local authority that you wish to be taken off the waiting lists of any higher preference schools.

Data-Led Approach With SuccessTrack® by Marie Redmond
Our term time students are assessed twice during each team – at half term and at the end of term. Based on the outcome of their initial assessment, we will create a tuition plan that sets their individual targets for each area they are preparing for (e.g. verbal, non-verbal and numerical reasoning). All lessons throughout the course are then designed to develop these areas. We continually monitor our student's progress; this means that we can check they’ve achieved their individual targets and revise their tuition plan to ensure that it suits their needs and challenges. Parents are always welcome to get in touch with us at any time during your child’s tuition, to gain feedback on their development.
SuccessTrack® by Marie Redmond is our unique data-led service that allows parents to:
Track their child’s progress over the Year 4 and 5 term time courses - our charts visualise a students' performance in each area of the 11 Plus, using data from our regular assessments (2 per term).
See their child's overall score and how that compares to our recommended pass mark for each exam they are planning to sit.
View anonymously how their child's scores compares (for each topic area and at a total level) to the average of all children in their cohort.
View their child's termly tuition plan, created using data from their assessments.
Read the end of term student report from their child's teacher.
The Marie Redmond Tuition® Book Club
Sharing our enjoyment of books is a fantastic way to encourage reading and therefore develop vocabulary and comprehension at home. The Marie Redmond Tuition® Book Club is an excellent platform for discussions about books, opportunities for creativity and promoting reading for pleasure. Discover our book of the month.

Our virtual creative writing lessons take place weekly on Zoom and are particularly useful for boys preparing for the Reading School 11+ exam but are open to all our term time students.
Every week there is a focus which can include story settings, characters, openings, events / problems and resolutions. Students practise writing in a variety of formats such as stories, plays, newspaper articles and letters. They are taught to use a variety of literary techniques and we show them how to draft their work, as well as reviewing and editing.

I just wanted to let you know that Lucas got a 119 in the Slough consortium results today. We are very pleased of course. Many thanks to you, Sinead and your other staff. Your services provided us with a clear structure and support. Especially with us changing lessons due to family commitments.
Year 5 parent, Langley (2017)
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for encouraging Simran to come out of her a shell. When she started with you in December she really dreaded tackling Maths in any form. She was ecstatic with her Maths score in the most recent assessment and the hard work from both sides clearly shows. She is enjoying it a lot more, feels more confident about it all because she is understanding it much more.
Year 4 parent, Langley (2018)
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you and Debbie in particular. Jack started off in tuition last year as a shy boy with low confidence. He has grown and developed in the time he has been studying with you. His confidence has soared and we have noticed a huge change in him. He has made a really positive start to Year 6 and I am confident this year will be the making of him. Thank you once again for all your support in the last year. Debbie, and the process of studying for 11+, has had a very positive impact on Jack. Please pass on our thanks to Debbie. Hopefully our daughter will do her 11+ tuition with you in a few years time too.

Marie Redmond 11+ Tuition have been absolutely amazing during our time, their engagement during lockdown has been phenomenal they have been arranging additional sessions since over zoom as well as a book club which my child enjoys very much. Communication 100% exceeded my expectations I don’t think I can say we have never been informed. They are always happy to help and respond to my emails promptly during office hours. From registration to attending to lessons and organisation all dealt with in a professional manner. So glad we made the right choice with choosing Marie Redmond. Thank you so much to your team.
Year 5 parent, Langley (2021)
He was nervous in the run up but he really enjoyed it. He wants to go to tuition 5 days a week and school only 1 day per week!
Year 4 parent, Langley (2020)
Dear Marie, she smashed her 11+ with 147 in Bucks and 125 in Berkshire. Thanks so much.
Year 5 parent, Iver (2022)
He passed both. He scored 137 in his Buckinghamshire exam and 114 in Berkshire.
Year 5 parent, Langley (2018)
Absolutely awesome experience, the amount of planning, organising and co-ordination that must have went on in the background to get the Bag of Knowledge out to every child who asked for it, must have been immense. The look on Annika's face was priceless, she is so excited to start this Saturday. I am also very excited to be doing this all over again with my younger daughter after having already experienced excellent, professional tutoring first time round with Marie Redmond in 2017/2018 for my eldest daughter.

We are grateful for the support given through the virtual lessons and also during the class lessons. We appreciate all the teachers who are working tirelessly to make sure our children don't miss out. Wishing you, your team and your families a happy and blessed Easter.

Jai did really well: Berks - 122, Bucks - 139. We hope he will follow his sister Keerit to Langley Grammar School. Many thanks to Sinead, yourself and your team for all the help you gave him (and to Keerit last year). Despite only attending for about a term and a half, Sinead gave him plenty of guidance, tips and motivation to succeed. Although the 11+ journey has come to an end for us, I now make a point to mention Marie Redmond 11+ Tuition whenever I the topic comes up conversation!
Year 6 parent, Windsor (2019)
Hi Marie, She passed the test with a score of 111. We are very pleased with her result , and thank you for your support and preparing.

Thank you for your email, which was very informative. Arjan really enjoyed the class, he said he felt he was learning, and he likes the variety of activities which meant he stayed focussed and engaged. Please pass on our thanks to his teacher on the day (Sinead).
Year 4 parent, Langley (2019)
He got his 1st choice school. He is very happy and thanks again for the role you and Sinead played as part of his preparation.
Year 6 parent, Langley (2018)
Hi Marie, He passed both. 127 in Bucks and 111 in Slough exam. Thank you to both you and Sinead for your help.
Year 5 parent, Langley (2018)
Sara passed both the Slough and the Bucks 11+ exams – she is now hoping to go to Langley Grammar School :-) I will be asking Sara to send you a message herself over the next few days. In the mean time I would like to offer my sincere thanks to you and your team. Your efforts instilled self confidence in Sara and gave her the fine tuning in her skills that she needed to pass the 11+. You managed to do this in a non-stressful environment where, through innovative and imaginative techniques, learning was actually made fun unlike so many other tutors I have heard about. I would whole-heartedly endorse you to other parents who may be considering tuition for their children. Thanks again, I hope your other children enjoyed the same success that Sara had.
Year 5 parent, Slough (2016)
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation for all of the hard work and dedication to you and your team for your selfless effort in taking the time to teach our children during what has been a very difficult time. You have worked tirelessly to make sure everything has gone smoothly and for this, we thank you!A special mention to Anne, Sinead and Sarah H who have worked well with Ayannah, and to Craig who is always available when needed. Please extend our heartfelt THANKS.
Year 5 parent, Langley (2021)
I want to thank you for all the help you did. Mehek’s score is 136.
Year 5 parent, Langley (2018)
Please pass on our thanks to Laura for tutoring Arjan before Lockdown and Sinead during lockdown. Arjan enjoyed the face to face lessons at the time anyway, and made rapid progress. But the virtual lessons in particular were very much appreciated. We recognise that this was a new way of working for your staff as well, but Sinead was very calm and reassuring throughout the process, and we really value her support of Arjan during this time. He was a little reticent about getting involved at first because Sinead and the other children were all new to him. Thanks to Sinead's efforts and insistence on involving everyone, he's really grown in confidence and is now fully engaging with the lessons.
Year 5 parent, Langley (2020)
Bisma had a great first session last Saturday at Stoke Poges – this was a real positive as she was very nervous at the start. I would also like to add that correspondence from yourself and your colleagues was informative and timely. The homework resources were well organised and we were able to find and use everything with ease – I especially liked the use of the purple folder containing that weeks homework. The small incentives used to motivate the children also worked a treat! Early days but a happy start.
Year 4 parent, Langley (2017)
I just wanted to write a little email to thank Anne and yourself for Simran’s smooth transition into 11+ tutoring. Simran is quite shy when in new surroundings however she has come out of each lesson so far with a beaming smile and very relaxed. She is finding the lessons very enjoyable and has made good progress in a short time. She has always feared any work related to Maths, however is now starting to enjoy it and eager to learn more.
Year 4 parent, Langley (2017)
Noah passed Bucks with a score of 128 (passing each individual element too). We are really happy he got the result that we worked hard for. Many thanks for all your work and support. Please pass my thanks onto Sinead and Ameena. We have one more child. She is in reception so it will be a few years yet. Although we will use you again.
Year 6 parent, Langley (2019)
I want to share the good news with you - our daughter passed the CEM 11 plus. Her result was 119. Now fingers crossed she gets her first choice for grammar school in Slough. Thanks to you and Sinead for supporting and guiding our daughter and us in preparing for the 11 plus.
Year 5 parent, Langley (2022)
Thank you for the detailed feedback. We really appreciate you taking the time. Ayannah enjoyed the summer course and had a lot of positive things to say. Sarah B was patient and interacted well with the students. Please convey our thanks to Sarah.
