Days and Times for Our Amersham 11+ Tuition Courses

The Amersham 11 Plus tuition courses are divided into three terms and if your child misses the start of a term, they are welcome to join at a later date (subject to availability).

Our Amersham 11+ tuition courses are limited in size

All our Amersham 11 Plus classes are limited in size (less than half the size of most independent school classes). Across our 11 Plus courses in 2025-26, classes averaged 8 students and never exceeded 10. A group of 8–10 provides the ideal balance: small enough for close monitoring and individual attention, yet large enough for healthy discussion, collaboration and a positive group dynamic.

We avoid groups of more than 10 because, although larger numbers may boost capacity, they inevitably reduce a teacher’s ability to monitor each child closely and provide the individual support we consider essential. We won’t compromise on teaching quality just to fit more children into a room.

Equally, we do not believe that extremely small groups or one-to-one tuition are automatically better. Effective 11+ preparation requires a carefully structured programme that prepares for every area of the exam in a balanced and systematic way. Children also benefit enormously from discussion, shared learning and working alongside motivated peers in a small academic group.

Discover the proven benefits of small class sizes.

Marie Redmond Tuition class size averaging 8 students, never more than 10

Homework designed for mastery and confidence

At Marie Redmond Tuition, we believe in providing homework that is both meaningful and manageable. Our thoughtfully designed tasks reinforce the skills taught during each 11 Plus tuition lesson, ensuring pupils are fully prepared for success. Homework is set to be completed for the next lesson, where it is reviewed, giving students the opportunity to deepen their understanding and address any challenges.

With many years of experience and a history of successful outcomes, we’ve refined our approach to homework, striking a balance that encourages consistent progress without overwhelming students or families.

The vast majority of parents say that we provide just the right amount of homework – carefully calibrated to meet students’ needs and prepare them thoroughly for the 11 Plus exams, whilst minimising unnecessary stress.

Feedback From Parents

  • I just wanted to say thank you to yourself and to Leanne. The Easter and Summer courses gave him some great tips and helped build his confidence. He even admitted to finding the lessons surprisingly fun and he enjoyed the structure. I also think that the mock tests really helped to settle his nerves so he knew what to expect from the exam itself. He ended up getting 139 in the eleven plus exam and was very happy. Thank you.

  • Avaneesh found the refresher session very helpful to prepare for his 11+ exam. We have highly recommended you in our friend circle. Thank you so much for amazing teacher Anne, well organized sessions and lots of resources.

  • I just wanted to send a quick note to say a heartfelt thank you for all your help and support over the past year or so. We're thrilled to let you know that Thomas passed his 11+ with a score of 125! He had the best experience with Liz, who was absolutely fantastic, patient, encouraging and a perfect fit for him. He genuinely enjoyed the sessions and always came away feeling positive and motivated which made such a difference (or in his words.... feeling sharp!). The whole process with Marie Redmond Tuition has been brilliant from start to finish, and we couldn't be happier with how everything worked out. We'll definitely be enrolling our daughter Mia with you in a year or two to follow the same path. Please pass on our sincere thanks to Liz and the wider team.

  • At long last the 11+ is over!! I just wanted to say that whatever happens with the actual results, the work you have done with Ben has been fantastic. His results at school have transformed this year and he is now performing a year above where he should be across the board. For me, whether he passes/fails the exam – this is actually more important and I wanted to thank you.

We really wanted to instil a work hard ethic but making it manageable without too much stress for children at this age with their developing brains. I really felt that your approach managed to achieve this which is a difficult balance to strike. Thank you for making the lessons fun but for encouraging the children to work hard and learn at the same time and to achieve their potential. Would appreciate it if you could please pass this message on to Liz too, and Kiana is enjoying her lessons with Liz too! Thanks once again

  • Lily passed with a score of 129 and has applied to attend Chesham Grammar School. Obviously we were and are delighted. Lily worked very hard during the last year to achieve a pass and I hope this has taught her a valuable lesson at a young age – that hard work normally pays dividends. Lily is very happy and we feel sure that she will thrive at Grammar School. I will be recommending Marie Redmond based upon our experiences. I would like to convey that I have found Sarah to be an excellent tutor. A good deal of Lily’s success is as a direct result of Sarah’s thoughtful and positive tuition. Thank you again for your support. Oscar is currently in Year 3 and we expect him to be attending Marie Redmond Tuition in 2019.

    Year 5 parent, Amersham (2017)

  • Dear Marie and Team, We wanted to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you for supporting Antra throughout her 11+ journey. Yesterday, when the Bucks results came out, we were absolutely delighted and, more than anything, deeply relieved to see that Antra had scored 139. As parents, the 11+ journey has been quite an emotional roller coaster, with its fair share of hopes, worries, hard work and anxious moments. Seeing her achieve this result was a truly special moment for our family. Antra was over the moon, and seeing her so happy made it all the more meaningful for us. We know that behind this result lies not just Antra's hard work, but also the guidance, encouragement, patience and effort of everyone who has helped her along the way. Your support has played a significant part in building her confidence and helping her navigate this challenging journey. We are genuinely grateful for everything you have done for her. Antra also had the opportunity to sit the Henrietta Barnett School (HBS) assessment. Although she scored 320, missing the Round 2 cut-off of 341, we are proud of the effort she put in and everything she has learnt along the way. She successfully cleared Round 1 of the Sutton grammar school assessment and has since appeared in Round 2. She has also completed the Slough and South West Herts grammar school assessments, and we are now eagerly awaiting those results. We are keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for some more good news in the coming weeks! I will, of course, keep you all updated as soon as we hear back about the remaining results. Whatever the remaining results may bring, yesterday was a moment we will always cherish. Thank you for being part of Antra's journey and for helping us get to this milestone. As parents, there is no greater happiness than seeing your child feel proud of herself and seeing her efforts bear fruit. Please pass on our sincere thanks to everyone involved in teaching and supporting Antra. We truly appreciate all the time, care and dedication you have invested in her. With heartfelt thanks and warm regards, Ranjeet and family

  • Thank you very much for the mock test results. He is delighted with the score, and his improvement too. We would like to thank you for the help you have given him. As you know, my main aim was for him to feel more confident and well prepared for the test, which he certainly is now – thanks to your input last week.

    Year 5 parent, Amersham (2014)

  • Hi Marie, we are pleased that she passed the 11+ and will be going to join her sister at Chesham Grammar School next year. She got 125.  Thank you for the work you and your staff put in to help her get there.  I recommended you to my friend a while back, and I believe she has enrolled her daughter with you.

    Year 6 parent, Amersham (2021)

  • Declan passed and we have applied for grammar schools. Very proud of him. He is also very relieved and happy that he can apply for Challoners. Thank you for helping him to get there.

    Year 5 parent, Amersham (2017)

  • We are delighted to inform you that she passed the exam. She achieved a score of 153, which we are very pleased about.  We were extremely pleased with the score achieved in Verbal Reasoning, as it seems as though she managed to get more or less every question correct in the paper. She came out of the test, expressing that it was not as difficult as she thought it may have been. She walked in to the test with a high degree of confidence, with a large part of this being down to you and your staff - we would like to thank you for this, and everything you have done since September 2019.  She has really benefited in being in small/medium classes - She seems to have thrived in the group environment, and the manner in which your classes are run (we were acutely aware that 1-2-1 tuition is not necessarily best for all). The amount of homework she had to do throughout the week was just right, and we felt that there was steady development throughout the year. Of all years, this has probably been one of the strangest doing the 11+. The pandemic brought numerous challenges to us all, and we feel the need to really commend the way in which you adapted to this so quickly and so well. This was a crucial period for so many children preparing for the 11+, and I feel that you could not have done any more in such challenging circumstances. Whilst it was not done by design, having different teachers teach through virtual lessons ended up benefitting her, as she gained more confidence through this experience. She has asked me to pass on to you that all teachers were really nice. So overall, a huge thank you to you and your team for everything you have done in assisting her and all the children in getting through the year, and the exam. We will most definitely be recommending you to others.

    Year 6 parent, Amersham (2021)

  • We were impressed with what your classes did for her last year in the summer term and in the summer school weeks (she scored 129 and is going to Chesham Grammar in September).

    Year 6 parent, Amersham (2020)

  • We have some very good news to pass on to you! We are delighted to tell you that he scored 131 in his test, enabling him to apply for a place at RGS in High Wycombe, as he had hoped for. It is lovely that he will be able to attend the same school as his older brother, who will be in year 10 when he joins. A great result for all of the family! I would like to pass on my thanks to Sarah again, for all of the help and guidance she gave us on the course. I would strongly recommend the course he did if anyone asks me for advice in the future.

    Year 5 parent, Amersham (2017)

  • He passed his exam – thank you for all your help!

    Year 5 parent, Amersham (2017)

  • I just wanted to say how impressed I am with Marie Redmond Tuition generally. The thoroughness of the course content and homework and your exceptional organisation is a winning combination. She sat a mock exam at the weekend for which I've just received her results — thank you for processing them so quickly. The granular breakdowns which you've thought to include are incredibly helpful; we can see now exactly where she needs extra support and focus when we have a bit of spare time, and of course the analysis of how she's tracking over time and alongside her peers is just as reassuring too. Regardless of the outcome in September, your tuition model is filling her with confidence that she has the tools for success.

    Year 5 parent, Amersham (2026)

  • Katie got 129 and is over the moon! Thank you for all your help.

    Year 6 parent, Amersham (2021)

  • Our daughter studied with Marie Redmond from November last year and passed her 11+ exam this September. Due to Coronavirus we went for online tuitions, which was very convenient and just as good as face to face lessons. My daughter's teacher Anne was very professional, encouraging and helpful. We have had numerous books and exam materials posted to us by the staff, as well as small rewards and cards with encouraging words. During the summer we signed up for the intensive course and the mock exam, which was taught in Amersham. The whole experience was very positive. My daughter's confidence was boosted hugely and she felt very sure when she took the exam, which was the best mental state we could have wished for. She now enjoys her last year at primary school with reasonable ease because she has massively improved in maths. We can't thank M. E. T. enough for their excellent teaching, help and support. My son will be signing up in a few years time. Hopefully remote lessons will still be available as it's the best way in my opinion.

    Year 6 parent, Aylesbury (2021)

  • Eleanor passed the exam and is now hoping to go to Chesham Grammar.

    Year 5 parent, Amersham (2015)

  • Luke is enjoying relaxing after the 11+.  He did really well with a score of 152.  Thanks so much for all the input.  The term-time and summer courses were really useful.  He is really goal-driven and so having points and prizes to work towards really helped.  As were the mock exams, which allowed him to get a feel for the timing and experience of sitting an exam under pressure.  Thanks also to the fantastic tutor Sarah.

    Year 6 parent, Amersham (2021)

  • Dear Marie, He scored 149 points, which is great! Of course as long as one has more than 121 the exact mark doesn't technically matter, but still, we're happy to see he is "comfortably" above the minimum. Thank you again for your tutoring which definitely helped.

    Year 5 parent, Amersham (2022)

  • Cassie scored 143 so guaranteed a place in a grammar school. Many thanks once again for guiding her to do well.

    Year 5 parent, Amersham (2017)

    Year 5 parent, Amersham (2015)

  • Olivia got a pass mark of 127. She was over the moon with the result! We are very proud of the hard work Olivia put in. Please pass on our thanks to Anne. She is a wonderful teacher and Olivia enjoyed being part of her class. I have passed on to all parent friends how impressed I was with the tuition (prior to getting Olivia's result) and would absolutely recommend your tuition to anyone. We will most definitely be using you when Olivia's brother is ready for tuition in a few years' time!

    Year 6 parent, Amersham (2023)

  • I hope this message finds you well. We are writing to express our deepest gratitude for the incredible support you have given Kiana in preparing for the 11+ exam. Having moved to the UK from Hong Kong just two years ago, it has been a huge transition for our family—especially for Kiana, who had so much to adapt to both academically and culturally. Your team’s structured and thoughtful approach was exactly what we needed. You helped us clearly identify the gaps in Kiana’s learning and guided us step by step towards closing them. The progress she has made is simply remarkable. From scoring in the 50s in her early verbal reasoning assessments to now passing the verbal test with over 20 marks more—it’s honestly something we once thought was out of reach. A very special thank you to Mrs. Allison, who worked so patiently and closely with Kiana. Her encouragement, clarity, and dedication made a huge difference. Kiana always looked forward to her lessons and came away more confident each time. Mrs. Allison not only helped her academically but also gave her the belief that she could succeed. We truly believe this would not have been possible without your team's support and guidance. Most importantly, you’ve helped Kiana realise that with hard work and resilience, she can overcome challenges and achieve her goals. That lesson is invaluable and will stay with her far beyond the 11+. Thank you again for everything you’ve done. We are so grateful to have had your support on this journey.
